Gateway LT2118u 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - Over 10 Hours of Battery Life Review

Purchased the Gateway LT2118u (with Windows 7 starter) and was skeptical about buying the Amazon recommended 2GB RAM upgrade because multiple people referenced having trouble with the system recognizing the extra memory. The Amazon rep didn’t know…he recommended I contact Gateway…that was difficult…no phone number listed. After researching on-line, I saw where several people stated that they just upgraded the BIOs from ACER and the computer recognized the upgrade. I decided to purchase Amazon’s recommended RAM (2GB 256Mx64P SODIMM 5300) from Cruial…if it failed, I would return it. I installed the memory using Gateway’s website procedures and it worked perfect…booted the computer and it recognized the memory. Computer works recognizably faster! By the way, I didn’t change the computers BIOs…it is still ACER ver 1.15.

I have been pleased overall with this Gateway computer. A couple of items though. First, Windows 7 Starter required me to get some new drivers for printers (not the computer’s fault). The battery lasts around 6 hrs of active browsing. It comes preloaded with MS Office Trial Version that you can “unlock” if you pay the fee. I purchased my own Business version and thus had to strip this off before installing mine. I did need tech support for an issue and found out they are only available for a fee so EXPECT NOTHING. Overall I’m pleased with this computer, not its support.

Got this netbook from wife for Xmas. In fact, I’m writing this review on it. As others have stated, ditch the junkware it comes preloaded with. I’ll admit I hate Windows Vista, always avoid buggy new operating systems like Windows 7. XP is still the best most stable MS OS since NT 4. Mostly use it for internet browsing, some gaming. My all-time favorite game, Steel Panthers World at War runs perfectly on this box. (BTW- full game is a free download from [...]) Other games like Bejeweled 2, Warlords III, etc. run fine, too. This is with no RAM upgrade. Guitarpro 5 also runs perfectly. This means I can load tabs, learn new songs without lugging my Toshiba laptop around. Itunes, Mediamonkey run perfectly as well- Podcasts galore! What more could you ask from a sub 0 netbook? Wifi was a no-brainer to set up. Youtube vids run just fine. Admittedly, you’re not going to run Call of Duty or other memory intensive games on it, but who cares? That’s what a desktop is for. In short, it does everything I want it to, without being chained to a desk or lugging around a full laptop. I think of it as a “Laptop Lite” and for that purpose it is very nice indeed. Amazon also rocks! BB had this same netbook for only 70 dollars more and Amazon actually understands the meaning of *SERVICE*. LOL! Brick and mortar megastores are doomed. Good riddance to them.

I’m using my netbook right now and it hasn’t given me any troubles thus far. It’s been excellent for my classes and is light enough to carry around. The battery works great too. It’s exactly how its described. only trouble is the windows 7 starter. its a total bummer and I’m planning on upgrading to the home edition asap. 2 thumbs up for Gateway!

Gateway LT2024u 10.1-Inch Red Netbook - 3 Hours of Battery Life (Windows 7 Starter) Review

So far so good, nice key board, easy to used. BESHURE to make a restore disc. The first time after the set up make shure you type in slowly your password, you may hit another key like I did or it just locked me out. You have to log in everytime, I don’t know if you can by-pass the log in like the larger lap tops or it maybe windows 7. It took a friend and some reading to restore (2hrs), no support number for Gateway (I could not find one, @#$%%^). Over all from what I know pretty good for one day, need to play with it some more.

I’ve had the Gateway LT2030u for three weeks and am thoroughly enjoying it. I have a full sized computer with all its bells and whistles in a home office and now use it only to update several web sites I maintain and to type and/or print lengthy documents. The Gateway LT2030u had allowed me to go “green” in that it consumes very little energy as compared to my full sized computer and peripherals, plus office heating and lighting. I can use the Gateway anywhere in the house, or for that matter, anywhere on my property.
